Working Together to Raise the Bar - and the Wages

Case Study: OneSpace

Their Story

OneSpace is an East Van based work, wellbeing, childcare, and community space in East Vancouver. From work space to childcare to wellbeing services, OneSpace brings together under one roof everything you need to find balance and pursue your passions.

Inspired by first-hand experience balancing entrepreneurship with motherhood, childhood best friends Elizabeth and Victoria founded OneSpace in 2021 with the goal of creating a supportive, community space for working mothers.

Today, Elizabeth and Victoria run Vessel Designs, a venture studio that brings to life creative ventures that inspire growth.

Vessel Designs ventures include:

These ventures come together to create an ecosystem of support for women entrepreneurs.

Their Values

OneSpace is committed to having a positive social impact while helping our members and partners thrive both personally and professionally. By providing holistic services such as flexible workspace, onsite childcare and wellbeing rooms, we aim to remove many of the traditional barriers that exist for parents, entrepreneurs and small businesses. From quiet work spaces, to natural lighting, to high-protein snacks, OneSpace was also designed from its inception to meet the needs of neurodivergent individuals.

Community Commitments:

  • Create a community for parents and entrepreneurs

  • Provide accessible services with sliding-scale pricing

  • Reduce barriers for parents, in particular mothers re-entering the workforce

  • Use collaborative practices to support community initiatives and have a positive social impact

  • Provide wraparound services in one location such as onsite childcare, access to practitioners and workspace to reduce the burden placed on parents to source them all individually

  • Provide a safe and welcoming space for all individuals

  • Offer flexible work space options to help entrepreneurs and small businesses thrive

  • Focus on supporting local and women-owned business first whenever possible

Their Problem

Doing all the cleaning themselves, Elizabeth and Victoria had “hiring cleaners” on their to-do list for quite some time. What finally got this item off their list was when TCC’s own Hayley reached out to offer our services.

From the start, the communication has been above and beyond. From the first time corresponding with Hayley we knew that this was going to be a positive relationship. Everything is clear, thorough and just plain nice. It’s always a pleasure to work with Hayley. There are so many cleaning companies out there, but TCC truly stands apart in all the best ways, and we honestly wouldn’t work with anyone else. The icing on the cake is they’re awesome at what they do!
— Victoria, OneSpace Director of Operations

Why They Were A Perfect Fit

OneSpace and TCC share many important values, including supporting women and women-owned businesses, disrupting our respective industries and a commitment to paying our teams a living wage.

Elizabeth and Victoria, and the safe, inclusive space they’ve created together, is a major inspiration for us. At TCC, we hope to one day offer free or subsidized childcare to our members, so that everyone has the privilege of earning a living - even while caregiving.
— Hayley, Co-founder of The Cleaning Co-op
